Shaw’s heavy hitting leads Trinity to victory

AMARILLO – Kasey Shaw recorded 19 kills on Tuesday night, helping Trinity Christian hold off Amarillo San Jacinto in a non-district volleyball match.

Kristin Fellows dished out 26 assists in the Lady Lions’ 28-26, 25-22, 14-25, 26-24 victory, while Makenzie Brown made 14 digs to pace the defense. Kailey Killough added three blocks, and Shelbi McClure served for four aces.

Next up for Trinity (6-2) is the Fort Worth Christian Invitational, which begins Friday.

• Estacado

BROWNFIELD – The Lady Matadors split a pair of matches against Littlefield and Brownfield.

Estacado began the day with a five-set win over Littlefield – its first victory of the season – but then lost to Brownfield in three sets.

The Lady Matadors (1-2) will next compete in the Littlefield Tournament beginning on Friday.

• Lubbock Christian

Brittany Hays racked up 18 kills, 21 digs and four service aces, and Lubbock Christian High outlasted Amarillo Arbor Academy at the Rip Griffin Center.

Bailey Scarborough supplied 17 assists in the Lady Eagles’ 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 14-25, 15-7 win, which ran their record to 6-1 this season.

Lubbock Christian returns to the court at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Dimmitt.

• Monterey

SEMINOLE – Monterey tried to rally from an early two-set deficit, but Seminole held on for a 25-19, 25-11, 22-25, 25-17 victory.

The Lady Plainsmen (2-5) return to action on Friday at the Nita Vannoy Memorial Tournament in San Angelo.

• Lubbock High

ANDREWS – Lubbock High’s Catherine Wiechmann tallied six kills and 10 assists, but the Lady Westerners lost to Andrews, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 25-21.

Elizabeth Wu also had six kills for Lubbock High (4-3), and she led the team with six digs. Katie Pattillo added five kills, and Hannah Brooks made five digs.

The Lady Westerners will next compete in the Nita Vannoy Memorial Tournament in San Angelo on Friday and Saturday.

• Coronado

The Lady Mustangs were no match for the top-ranked Class 4A team in the state, losing 25-17, 25-8, 25-14 in a home match against Randall.

Coronado (3-7) will next compete at a tournament in New Braunfels beginning on Thursday. The tourney will be the Lady Mustangs’ final tuneup before starting District 2-5A play next week against Amarillo, the top-ranked team in Class 5A.

• Frenship

WOLFFORTH – The Tigers couldn’t build on their fast start against the ninth-ranked team in Class 4A, losing at home against Canyon, 22-25, 26-24, 25-18, 25-11.

Maddie Salyer made 11 digs to lead Frenship (4-4), while Marisa Rodriguez added 10 digs.

The Tigers return to action on Friday at the Lu Allen Memorial Tournament in Graham.
