Live updates from the game

UPDATE, 4:50 THID QUARTER
Disaster has struck for the Westerners as Midland has taken complete control of the game.

LHS almost caught a break when Midland QB Jack Bolger was stripped of the ball at the 1-yard line at the end of a 30-yard run. But Midland’s Antwon Goodley recovered the ball in the end zone for the touchdown anyway to make it a 28-6 game.

On the ensuing kickoff, miscommunication forced LHS to muff the ball, and after it was kicked around, Erick Callier recovered for the Bulldogs at the LHS 5. Two plays later, Tyler Middleton ran it in from 3 yards out to make it 35-6.

UPDATE, 4:12 SECOND QUARTER
Lubbock High strikes a blow and is not going to go quietly, pulling to within 21-6 on a 1-yard TD run by Aaron Paulhill, the third-string RB behind Shaquille Johnson, who injured a leg in the game, and Reggie Williams, who turned an ankle last week.

The TD was set up by a couple of big plays — an 18-yard catch by Tim Montgomery early in the drive to give LHS a little breathing room, and later a 18-yard run on the draw by Dorrae Montgomery. Kelan Hamman then hit Nathan Slaughter for 20 yards — his first catch of the game — to the 1-yard line to set up Paulhill’s score.

Midland returned the ensuing kickoff to the LHS 30 but was called for holding, putting it at the Midnad 26.

UPDATE, 7:51 SECOND QUARTER
Midland is on the verge of putting this one away early as the Bulldogs score another touchdown and LHS is struggling on both sides of the ball.

LHS was forced to punt on a 3 and out and the ball came out only to the LHS 36. Midland needed just four plays to reach the end zone as Tyler Middleton caught a 13-yard shovel pass from Bolger to push the lead to 21-0.

Midland is simply overpowering the Westerners up front on both sides of the ball. And LHS WR Nathan Slaughter has been held without a catch after having 14 grabs for 235 yards and 3 TDs a week ago.

Lubbock High 0 vs. Midland 7

Lubbock High’s quarterback Angel Armendariz is out with a left knee injury.
