Estacado wins over Snyder 47-27

SNYDER — A fourth-down stop and two time-consuming drives paved the way for Lubbock Estacado on Friday night as the Matadors pulled away from the Snyder Tigers, 47-27.

The Tigers (2-2) pulled to within 1 point of tying the game with six minutes, 21 seconds left when Anthony Taylor snagged a 37-yard pass from Keenon Ward. Estacado maintained the lead on a missed extra point.

Alton White, who rushed for 107 yards, broke two tackles on a 38-yard run with 4:55 to play and stretched the margin to 35-27. The Mats (2-2) held on downs and put an insurance score on the board when White rambled 17 yards with 54.8 seconds to go.

Brent Mann’s 51-yard interception return was icing on the cake with 1.5 seconds to play.

“It was a great effort,” Estacado head coach Danny Servance said. “We had an unbelievable night in stopping them on fourth down. We did that more than once and that gave our defense confidence and boosted the entire team.

“The key was the running game in the fourth quarter. Our backs ran hard and all of that starts with the offensive line. They came through for us.”

In the first half, the two teams exchanged scores until Brylon Bradford snagged a 15-yard TD pass from Deverick Stubblefield with 3:26 left.
Snyder tied the game again in the third quarter on an 8-yard scoring toss from Ward to Jimmy Holt.

The Mats then took control and regained the lead for good on Augustine Abigide’s 2-yard run with 8:49 left.

The way you described this game is so bland. Either you are not appreciative of your job, or you are just incompetent. This was Snyder’s homecoming, sold out to a pack crowd. It seems that the entire city of Snyder was at the game. The game went back and forth throughout the entire game. You could do a much better job. I bet if it was Coronado, Monterey, or Lubbock High you would be much more descriptive, and concise.

You make too many errors in the stats, and the players. That’s why the newspaper is going under because the people have gotten tired of AJ erroneous reporting. Quinten Patterson scrambled 23 yards for the touchdown, not White. There are many more errors or should I say intentiional mis-reporting of the game. This seems to be the way you guys do business at you paper.

The 2nd Quarter touchdown credited to Mark Rodriguez was actually scored by #33 Cody Cortez. I have pictures to prove it. At least when NewsChannel 11 is reporting they get it RIGHT.

It would be nice if the AJ would get the facts right. Kmydron Jordan??? Isn’t that #3 who got knocked out in the 2nd Quarter of the Snyder game??? How can he be a beast if your hurt all the time? From what I’ve seen, the beasts on defense are Leroy Mitchell, Joey Andrist, Jermaine Jones, and Quinton Patterson. Not taking anything away from #3, but he still has a lot to prove before people start calling him a beast!!!!!

    Just stating the facts!!!
