Frenship over Randall 37-7

By Zach Tijerina / Avalanche Journal
Frenship’s loss to Abilene Wylie last week was motivation as they cruised to a 37-7 victory over Canyon Randall Friday night at Kimbrough Stadium in Canyon.

“We were out-manned, out-played, and out-hustled last week,” Philip James, Frenship senior said. “It felt good to come out here and get a win. It was good to get the turnovers we did and play as hard as we did.”

James had two interceptions to lead the Tiger defense.
Frenship wasted no time on its first possession when they made it down the field in a 3-play drive for 72 yards. The Tigers scored when Brandon Hanslik passed to Gabe Guerrero for 9 yards.

“We executed very well the first drive and we felt like we could execute on some things they were giving us,” Brad Davis, Frenship head coach, said. “They adjusted and we did not get down the field so quick that next drive. We felt like we could throw the ball a little better because they were playing with no safeties most the game.”

Hanslik finished the game going 10-for-23 with 138 yards passing.
A 29-yard pass set up Frenships first touchdown to Dallas Croyle followed by a 39-yard run from Bobby Huey.

Randall’s first play resulted in an interception by Philip James at the Tiger 40-yard line.

The Tigers were unable to capitalize on the Randall turnover and they punted the ball inside the Randall 10-yard line.

Randall was backed up to its 2 yard line with a series of runs for loss and a 5-yard false start penalty.

While punting out of their own end zone, the Raider’s deep snapper over snapped its punter for a safety giving Frenship a 9-0 lead.

Hanslik connected with Guerrero for a 25-yard pass down the center of the field for a second touchdown.

The two teams exchanged punts until the Tigers reached the scoreboard with 1:32 left in the half off a 16-yard run from Huey.

Huey did not play the second half and finished the game with 97 rushing yards.

Randall went into its hurry-up offense with 1:25 after Bryce Ballard rushed for 24 yards on its first play. Ballard followed the run with a 14-yard run. Jordan Smith passed to Leighton Tapia for 16 yards before Randall called time out with 7 seconds remaining in the first half.

Ballard rushed for a 29-yard touchdown with time expiring in the first half.

James intercepted a Randall pass at the Tiger 25-yard line on the opening drive of the third quarter.

Frenship converted the turnover into points with a 6-minute drive that ended with a 15-yard run from Roddy Rivas.

Hanslik rushed for a 2-yard touchdown at the end of the quarter and the Tigers held on to a 37-7 victory.
