SHALLOWATER — It was a night of mixed emotions for the Shallowater Mustangs.
They rang up a season-high point total in a 70-12 rout of Roosevelt, but were eliminated from playoff contention thanks to a win by Idalou.
The Mustangs came out firing, scoring 28 points in the first quarter to take the Eagles out of the game early.
Behind quarterback Logan Powell, the Mustangs put on an offensive show, scoring 56 points before halftime.
Powell ran for four touchdowns and passed for two, leading a Shallowater offense that rolled up 649 yards.
Powell scored on runs of 26, 49, 12 yards and 1 yards and threw TD passes to Michael Ratheal and Desmond Wright as the Mustangs improved to 6-3 this season and 3-3 in district games.
Roosevelt quarterback Caden Whitley was an efficient 17 of 23 passing for 151 yards and connected with Jeremy Garcia for a first-quarter touchdown.
But the Eagles (4-4, 2-4) were outgunned as Shallowater scored four touchdowns in the first 10 minutes of the game and four more in the second quarter.
The Eagles were never close, getting down 21-0 early before Whitley connected with Garcia late in the first. They did not get their second score on the board until late in the second when the Eagles were already down 42-6.
Eagle Ryan Davis returned a kickoff 95-yards to give a little life to the Eagle team.
The second score came right after Mustang Jake Morris ran in from 28 yards out.
The Mustangs racked up 468 rushing yards while holding the Eagles to only 29 yards on 21 carries.
The teams had a combined 14 penalties for 147 yards.
The Mustangs will travel to Abernathy to take on the Antelopes in the season finale next Friday.
The Eagles will host the Denver City Mustangs in their finale.
