Cooley’s four touchdowns boost Borden County

PECOS – Michael Cooley ran for 143 yards and scored four touchdowns and Karl Lamming added three touchdowns as No. 1 Borden County trounced Balmorhea 54-8 in a six-man regional playoff Friday.

Cooley scored on runs of 48, 1 and 17 yards and a 57-yard punt return. Lammig, a backup quarterback and cornerback, scored with a 10-yard fumble return, a 79-yard interception return and a 12-yard run. The last ended the game by 45-point rule midway through the third quarter.

Borden County (12-0) set up a rematch with district rival Sands. The game tentatively is scheduled for next Saturday at Lowrey Field at a time to be determined. Borden County won the regular-season meeting between the two 40-20.
