With just a couple weeks until the Christmas break, districts 2-5A in boys and 3-2A in girls join 2-5A girls in beginning league action today.

In 2-5A it’s doubleheader action time with the big games on the road as Coronado visits Midland. On the girls side, it’s a matchup between defending district champion Coronado, ranked No. 23 in the latest Texas Association of Basketball Coaches poll, and the team that finished second in Midland, ranked No. 14. On the boys side, Coronado is coming off a very impressive weekend in which it mowed its way through the competition to win the Gene Messer Shootout championship out at Frenship. The Mustangs open league play against the defending district co-champion Bulldogs.

Elsewhere, Monterey hosts Tascosa for boys and girls action, while Lubbock High opens at home against Amarillo.

In other city action, both Frenship teams are on the road at Seminole. The Frenship girls enter the week ranked No. 18. Estacado welcomes a couple of traditional powers, with the girls hosting Palo Duro and the second-ranked Matadors taking on Brownfield.

District 3-2A opens play in girls action with Roosevelt on the road at Post and Shallowater hosting Idalou in a battle of rivals. Shallowater’s girls team enters the week ranked No. 6 with a 10-1 record.

In the private ranks, Lubbock Christian is on the road for a pair of games at Sundown, while Trinity Christian welcomes Midland Classical.
