Jacobs, Moreno lift Lady Mustangs
ODESSA — Coronado’s Lyndsie Jacobs and Alysia Moreno both scored first-half goals, and the Lady Mustangs beat Odessa 2-1 on Saturday for their first District 2-5A victory of the season.
Jacobs struck first in the seventh minute, using an assist by Ryann Blount. Moreno tallied her goal in the 33rd minute, with the help of an assist by Becca Crumley.
Coronado goalkeepers Anissa Arenas and Jessica Gaines combined for 14 saves. They also flirted with a shutout until Alyssa Deutsch scored for Odessa (2-6-2, 2-4-2 in district) with only 10 minutes remaining.
The Lady Mustangs (2-5-3, 1-5-2), which vaulted from a tie for last place into seventh place, will next face Monterey at 7 p.m. Monday at Lowrey Field.

MIDLAND — Shelby Burrescia scored with only five minutes remaining, helping Monterey salvage a 1-1 tie against Midland Lee in a District 2-5A match at Grande Communications Stadium.
Jessica Barrera provided an assist on the goal, and goalkeepers Jacey Lester and Franchesca Lozoya made a combined eight saves for the Lady Plainsmen (5-3-2, 3-3-2).
The Lady Rebels (1-4-4, 0-4-3) scored on a free kick midway through the first half.
Monterey, which will next face Coronado at 7 p.m. Monday at Lowrey Field, remained three standings points behind fourth-place San Angelo Central.
-Lubbock High girls
MIDLAND — Midland’s Lauren Collyer and Alli Kenney both scored two goals, and the Lady Bulldogs beat Lubbock High 6-0 in a District 2-5A match at Audrey Gill Sports Complex.
Molly Barham and Laramie Hollifield also scored for Midland (7-2-1, 7-1), which moved within one standings point of first-place Amarillo.
The Lady Westerners (3-7, 1-7) will next host Midland Lee at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Lowrey Field.
-Monterey boys
MIDLAND — Midland Lee’s Adam Reker scored his second goal on a penalty kick with only 15 seconds remaining, so Monterey had to settle for a 2-2 tie in a District 2-5A match at Grande Communications Stadium.
The Plainsmen (7-2-2, 4-2-2), who earned one standings point to remain in a third-place tie with San Angelo Central, got two goals from Eric Carrasco and assists by Marc Casares and Andres Flores.
But they missed a penalty kick, and an opportunity to seal the win, with 10 minutes left.
Goalkeeper Isaac Wilkins made 10 saves for Monterey, which will next face rival Coronado at 5 p.m. Monday at Lowrey Field.
-Lubbock High boys
MIDLAND — Robert Gonzalez and Cutter Wiseman scored two goals apiece for Midland, which cruised to a 7-0 win against Lubbock High in a District 2-5A match at Audrey Gill Sports Complex.
Adrian Aranda, Sammy Ibarra and Lukas Valentin also scored for the Bulldogs (8-1-3, 5-1-2).
The Westerners (5-6, 3-5), who have lost four in a row since a 3-1 start to district play, will next face Midland Lee at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Lowrey Field.
-Coronado boys
ODESSA — Jonathan Pepper and Trey Kerr scored second-half goals for Odessa, which beat Coronado 2-0 to remain in first place in District 2-5A.
Pepper broke a scoreless tie early in the second half, and Kerr added an insurance goal for the Bronchos (6-2, 6-2) in the 72nd minute.
The Mustangs (0-12, 0-8) will try to bounce back at 5 p.m. Monday against Monterey.
